MODULE 1

4-DAY INTENSIVE COMMERCIAL FLOWER ARRANGING

Being the owners and managers of a successful Florist business and running our Flower Courses for over 20 years, the tutors at  Kay’s Flower School have a vast experience and knowledge of the daily running and the pitfalls and challenges faced by students intending to work in or run their own florist business. 

Module one is a flower course especially designed by Kay’s for people who wish to pursue a career in the Florist trade or those who want to work from home on a commercial basis. On completion of this course we recommend our students to progress to Module 2. (Sympathy Floristry)

This course starts with an introduction to flower arranging, notes/handouts and advice on purchasing and selecting the essential flowers, foliage, accessories and materials in the wholesale Flower Markets and Fresh Flower Suppliers & where to purchase sundries wholesale. 

Students are supervised at all times whilst making their flower arrangements. All Tuition is with step-by-step demonstration and detail explanation of the techniques of assembly of each presentation and detailed instructions on how to condition, treat and store fresh flowers and living materials.

Kay’s Flower School students are advised on the recommended retail prices of their finished designs. We start with geometric shapes and then advance onto Fantastic Contemporary, Modern, and Funky arrangements. All materials and flowers are supplied and students displays theirs to take home. (please bring a large bag to transport arrangements home if you are using public transport).

At our Flower School we can advise students how to deal with a customer and trade enquires, where and when opportunities arise to create more business and the best way to deal with these situations. 

Kay's School of floristry is an independent business and are not connected to any flower shop or wholesalers, we can tell you all the tricks of the trade and our aim is to support and advise students on opening and managing a floristry business or indeed working from home or as a  freelance florist.  

On completing this module, students are capable of gaining orders for Birthdays, Mothers Day, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Births, Anniversaries, and Special Occasions.

Certificate of completion given upon successful completion of this course.

This course can be attended Monday to Thursday or weekends, two Fridays and two Saturdays.

We recommend students to proceed to Sympathy Floristry (Module 2) after finishing this course

MODULE 2

SYMPATHY TRIBUTES AND HAND-TIED BOUQUETS

4-DAY INTENSIVE COMMERCIAL COURSE

Module 2 includes advanced design techniques on Funeral Tributes and Hand-Tied Bouquets in Aqua Packs. Students are taught all aspects Funeral Sympathy Tributes, what to expect the wholesale purchase price of each wreath base will be, the what quality and quantity of flowers and foliage to use for each design .

At Kay’s Flower School our tutors explain the procedure a Florist needs to take in taking a customer's order and the recommended selling prices of each base. Handouts and instructions are provided.

Over the four days students will receive hands on practical experience on the following designs, an Eternal Circle, a Textured Floral Wreath, a Round or Heart Wreath edged with pleated ribbon with a crescent spray arrangement, a Sympathy Rose in cello and a Funeral/Coffin Spray.

To maximize the retail sales for a Florist Business, all students master the technique of Handtied Bouquets using new up to date concepts of wrapping in Aqua Packs, (bubble of water) and they will learn to incorporate bear/steel grass or ting tings and how to make their handtied bouquets stand.

At our Flower School students are taught an array of techniques in wrapping with tissue and cello and how to make a large florist bow to add the finishing touches to their completed bouquet. 

Your Tutor will also give step-by-step instructions and as teamwork the students will make the following designs.

A Sympathy Heart Wreath edged with ribbon incorporating a floral spray, a grouped or textured Sympathy Cross Tribute and how to do a floral initial on a Sympathy Pillow or Cushion Wreath.

As a team students assemble and decorate "The Gates of Heaven" tribute and they also learn how to design a modern foliage textured wreath using a selection of retail and garden foliage.

Certificate of completion given upon successful completion of this course

We recommend students to proceed to Bridal Floristry. (Module 3)

On all courses please bring:

  1. A Packed Lunch, or lunch can be purchased in Local Shops & Café’s
  2. A large Notebook, Biros and colored pencils
  3. A Florist Scissors, and a camera
  4. Plastic sleeves and folders for handouts.
  5. Please wear warm comfortable clothes
  6. Kay's School provide Tea, Coffee and Snacks free of charge

 

MODULE 3

COMMERCIAL BRIDAL FLORISTRY

4-DAY INTENSIVE COMMERCIAL WEDDING FLOWERS

Kay's recommend before students commence with this module they need to have successfully completed Module 1 and 2 or have a similar standard of training.

4-Day Intermediate and Advanced Bridal Floristry course

This course will be held over four intensive days.
Price €600.00 includes all flowers and materials

This course can be attended Monday to Thursday or two Fridays and two Saturdays.

Next Commencement Dates:

Monday – Thursday 13th –16th September
Monday – Thursday 18th-21st October
Monday –Thursday 6th to 9th December

 

It is possible to attend 1 or 2 days of this course. Price 175.00 euro per day

Day 1
Includes:

  • Introduction theory class to Bridal Floristry.

  • Purchasing Flowers and Sundries:

  • Wholesale Cost prices of materials & pricing techniques.

  • Treatment of fresh flowers material.

  • Different techniques are taught on the wiring of Roses, Orchids, Lilies and Carnations etc. 

  • Hands on tuition on how to construct a wired bridal bouquet using a selection of flowers and foliages.

  • Hands on tuition class on a Wristlet Corsage that is suitable for a Debutante, Bridesmaid or the Mother of the Bride.

  • Instruction class on how to make Ribbon Bows and Pew Bows. 

 
Students will also be provided with detailed step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation. 

Day 2
Includes:

 Theory / Demonstration class on taking an order from the Bride, When to order the flowers from your supplier, how to work out how much material you will require and the cost and the selling prices.

  • Hands on tuition class in designing a Hand-Tied Bouquet for a Bride incorporating flowers and foliages & bridal sundries . 
  • Hands on tuition class in designing a selection of Buttonholes & Corsages for the Groom, Groomsmen, Mothers, Fathers and Guests attending the wedding. 
  • Hands on tuition class on a Peace Rose or a single flower in cello. 

  • Students are provided with step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each wedding design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation.

Day 3:
 Includes:

  • Theory class on designing a wedding brochure, business cards, advertising and taking a stand at a Wedding Fair.

  • Introduction to the pros and cons of using an Oasis Bridal Holders for Wedding Bouquets.

  • Hands on tuition class in designing a Bride’s Shower Bouquet using a selection of flowers and foliages. 

  • Hands on tuition class on how to make a Flowergirl’s Wand

  • Theory / Demonstration class on a Flowergirl’s Floral Hoop and Floral Basket. 

 
Kay’s Flower School students are provided with step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each wedding design, plus how to cost each design wholesale and the selling prices of each presentation.

Day 4:

Includes

  • Hands on tuition class in designing a Contemporary Bridal Wedding Bouquet.

  • Theory / Demonstration class on a Flowergirl’s Pomander (ball of flowers). 

  • Students are provided with step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each wedding design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation.

  • Revision questions and theory test. 

Certificate of completion given upon successful completion of this course

 

MODULE 4

ADVANCED BRIDAL COURSE 

Kay's Flower School students must have successfully completed Module 1& 3 or of a similar standard before commencing with this module. This course will be held over four intensive days. 

It is possible to attend 1 or 2 days of this course 


Price €600.00 includes all flowers and materials or €175.00 per day.

Next Commencement Dates:

Friday 29th, Saturday 30th, Sunday 31st October and Monday 1st November 2010

 Day 1:

Time: 10am to 3.30pm

Includes:

  • Theory class: Introduction to latest trends and techniques for large wedding bouquets. 
  • Hands on tuition class in designing a large trailing Waterfall/Cascading style wedding bouquet using the wired technique. 

 
Students are provided with detailed step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each wedding design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation.  

 

Day 2:

Time: 10am to 3.30pm
 Includes: 

  • Theory and step-by-step demonstration class on a Large (4-5 ft) Church Pedestal Display. 
  • Hands on tuition class in designing a modern Floral Pew Arrangement and the Unity Candle Floral Arrangement.
  • Church Flowers
  • Students be provided with detailed step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation.

Day 3:

Time: 10am – 3.30pm
Includes:

Hands on Tuition class in designing a presentation Hand-Tied Bouquet, wrapped  in Cello and tissue and how to make it stand in an Aqua Pack (This bouquet is suitable as a thank you bouquet for the Mother of the bride and groom) 
 
Theory / Demonstration class covering a floral Halo Headdress’s for a flower girl using  a wired technique or how to use a glued technique.

Theory / Demonstration class in wedding bouquet designed in a Horseshoe form, which can also be designed as a Crescent Bouquet or Hogarth Curve bouquet. 
 
Kay’s Flower School students will be provided with step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation. 

Day 4:

Time: 10am – 3.30pm

Includes:

  • Theory class using a mock wedding as an example students will be taught how to  work out a flower order, what days to purchase all materials required for a wedding, how much it should cost them, approximately what the recommended selling price would be and all other relevant details. 
  • Hands on tuition class in designing an Advanced Contemporary Display.
  • Demonstration class on Candelabras and Floral Arrangements, Wedding Arch for a Church or Hotel reception. 
  • Revision questions and theory test. If any bridal student has an order for a wedding, they are more than welcome to bring in the details and a tutor will go through it with them and give them advice on what they will need to purchase and how much to charge the bride.
  • Kay’s Flower School students are provided with step-by-step instructions and an itemised list of the materials required for each design, plus how to cost and the selling prices of each presentation. 

 Kay’s school of Floristry offers a Free back-up service for bridal students who have completed this course and they are more than welcome to email a tutor for advice on future weddings orders they may have.

 These four modules combined are the foundation training required to enter the Florist business.

Each module can be covered over Four Intensive Days attended during the week or two weekends two Fridays and two Saturdays.

All courses start with an introduction to Purchasing, Costing, Techniques of Assembly and the recommended selling prices of designs.

If you are a complete Novice or your experience is dabbling at home or self trained from books we recommend all students to start with Module (1) Commercial Flower Arranging.

Tutors at Kay's have an informal approach to teaching that makes the classes thoroughly enjoyable yet informative at the same time.

The aim of the Kay’s Flower School is to make Commercial Floristry and Flower Arranging more accessible to everyone, Individuals who simply enjoy flowers in their home, florist who wish to improve their floristry skills and those who may have an ambition to make floristry a career.

Our students are in demand from Flower Shops all over Ireland who require staff and a many of our past students are now running successful business around Ireland 

Classes are kept small, so places are limited on each course and bookings are only confirmed on receipt of a booking deposit. A place may be reserved by phone/email and confirmed with a €200 deposit.

Please make cheques payable to Kay’s.

Deposits and Course fees are non-refundable and the balance is payable at least one week in advance of the course commencement date.

 FAS & C.E. Supervisors may book students onto a course in advance. We will send them an application form and invoice that needs to be returned to the school before the student attends a course.
